When I first heard about Girls Design the World, the environmental projects were most intriguing to me. I’ve been interested in environmental studies for a while—I want to learn what we as a society can do to help—but I’ve never taken action. Learning more about STEAM, I realized the program’s emphasis on science. I would not consider my science skills to be my strongest, but this seemed like a perfect opportunity to sharpen them. Adding art into the mix made it sound even more fun.
When I heard that the program was held at Mia, I was almost too intimidated to apply! I had come to Mia for field trips a couple times, and the tours got more and more interesting each visit. Now I’m working here, and it’s just the coolest opportunity.
Looking into the future, I see myself as an artist. Because there are so many varieties, however, I’m not sure what kind. I’m thinking some kind of designer (graphic, interior, or fashion) or a photographer. I’m currently enrolled in an IB (International Baccalaureate) art class at school, so here are a couple pages from the sketchbook we’re required to keep, and a completed piece of mine!
