My favorite work of art at Mia is the Veiled Lady, sculpted by Raffaelo Monti. This sculpture caught my eye when I was walking through the galleries because it was so different from everything around it, mainly due to its small size. The look of the sculpture is different than other marble busts—it has a soft, flowing, almost fabric-like motion to it. Other marble statues have hard lines, and there isn’t that sense of motion like the Veiled Lady has. The craftsmanship required to create this look with marble amazes me, which is why this piece is my favorite in the museum.
