I am a person who has struggled with overcoming failures her whole life. When I was younger, I tried different sports, art programs, and other activities. When I didn’t perform as well as my coaches, parents, or peers, however, I lost confidence and ultimately quit. Due to this tendency, throughout my life I have had difficulty doing things for my own enjoyment rather than to prove my worth to others. Through Girls Design the World, I have learned a lot; including how to appreciate my own contributions. Every day I am inspired by—rather than intimidated by—the wonderful female artists who are also a part of this amazing program. Spending more time with art-oriented people has really opened up my world to the potential that we, as young artists, have to change the world. I believe that raising awareness of local environmental issues is really just the first step for us.
