My biggest goal in life is to leave this world in a better condition than when I came into it. The Girls Design the World program offers me a way to work toward this goal before even graduating from high school. The program connects women from across the world—from Minnesota, USA to Nairobi, Kenya—to collaborate and solve environmental issues facing our communities today. Despite being in completely different countries, we have similar issues we are all working together to solve. The fact that I get to work with women on the other side of the globe in attempt to resolve these issues is inspiring.
I have always cared about the environment, and I’m very concerned about the negative effects humans are having on our planet. Ultimately, I am most passionate about saving animals and preserving their natural habitat. So far in Girls Design the World, my group has been working on the preservation of pollinators, who feed both humanity and the animal species. If I am able to have a better effect on their homes as a 15-year-old girl, how far can I go in 10 more years? How much of a difference can I make for their lives? These are the questions that drove me to apply for Girls Design the World.
